motor swap in an rx-7??
I wanna do a motor swap in my 1988 RX-7 GXL i wanna swap the JDM twin turbo in it but i am just getting to know RX-7's and i have no idea what i would be getting myself into. should i do it or should i buy a civic? that last part was a joke

save yourself time and headaches. Buy a Turbo car with a blown motor and go from there.
The only N/A RX-7 worth converting is the first gen's, and at that, preferably the GSL-SE (because most of the parts for the swap are already there).

Interesting how one of the people who hated me for making my dead N/A rx7 fast, says it isn't even worth converting an N/A rotary to a turbo rotary.
If you think the cars are so fecking worthless, why care if somone revives a dead one as a fast V8 autocrosser?

Actually from what ive heard and read...swaping in a 13b-rew...which is the motor in the 93-95 tt's sold here...its not impossible....but very very hard and not worth the money....best bet....get a jap spec 20b .....or a 13b t outta of a wrecked car....get the lsd rear too and the t-II tranny...then mod from there.....or (plz dont kill me) you could go for a 302 swap...outta a mustang....granny's makes the engine cradle.....and other things needed to do that swap....but ima get flamed for even bringing that up ...hope this helps some

You can do he swap but you eill need to swap ou the ENTIRE DRIVE TRAIN. The NA tranny, rear end, and axles can not take more than about 200 lbs/ft of stress. Unless you find a dead turbo car thats been wrecked for a parts car its gonna cost a fourtune. Ive really only heard of the convertible guys doing this swap.

Actually...when i had my 86 n/a i was considering doing this swap.....the axles would actually be fine....the tranny can handle up to about 250lb ft.....but you would have to drive like grandma....and that would be no fun....and as far as it costing a fortune...nope....there was site...cant remeber what it was....but they had the complete 13b-t for 950$ and the tranny for 350$......if i can find the link i will post it...

FC drivetrains are a dime a dozen. You might as well upgrade it. As for the turbo swap its not quite as simple as dropping a turbo engine in an N/A. If you put the turbo in you also have to change or modify the engine wiring harness and several other portions if my memory is right on that. I'd personally swap it and go to a haltech at the same time. The whole price of the project would be under $2500.

If you can find an FC turbo doner car then by all means do the swap its a PIA but worth it. if you buy it all ...... forget it
