how do you get turbo to work with 98 prelude type SH?

I just got into the hobby of modifying cars (my cars) and i am kinda new. What i found out is that, my car, PRELUDE TYPE SH....is kinda weird. i want to lower my car and the camber kits but all the camber kits i saw for sell are only for regular preludes......anyways..thats besides the point. My question is, if i want to install turbo in my type SH, what can i do? because no one makes turbo kit for type SH.... what can i do? i heard something about changing the ECU??? can i replace my ecu with a regular prelude's ecu?????? WHAT CAN I DO??!!! can someone help me??? i am in pain because supposingly i bought the top of the line prelude.....which has the same horsepower as the basic....and i have tons of trouble finding parts for it...because most of the stuff is for non-sh.....help me...thanx.

greddy makes a mild turbo kit for the SH. you can always to a do a custom turbo setup. personally, if you're going to boost the SH, i'd opt for the jrsc. the problem with the SH is the ATTS and it's rep for not being boost friendly. it can't handle too much power. anything over 250hp to the wheels, it becomes dead weight.

the option of disabling ATTS is always there, but not only will your car not have its great handling as before, you got almost 100lbs of metal just sitting there. and we all know the prelude already has a weight problem. swapping the ECU b/w the base and SH isn't gonna do you anything. the relative difficulty in modifying the SH stems from the ATTS.

and buying the 'top of the line' lude doesn't necessarily make it the easiest to modify. yes, the base model is easier to modify, and easier to make faster. it has the weight advantage, albeit a slight advantage, but most of all it doesn't have the ATTS.

so here's my conclusion, given that the SH is easily one of the best handling cars on the road, focus on its strengths. don't get bent on being so fast going straight. hondas, preludes especially, aren't at home on the drag strip believe it or not. . your car will eat most cars alive when it comes to handling.

you want more power for your SH? go with the jrsc. i did, i took well over a second off my 1/4 mile time. a good 70hp increase and no less than 50 lb ft of torque increase. but yeah, greddy makes a mild turbo kit for the SH if you're set on a turbo. as for the camber kit, how low are you planning to go?

wow, thanx for the detail reply. i really needed it. but being a newbie as i am, would you please tell me what is a jrsc??? since you also own a SH i am sure what ever you have must be good. and i am planning to drop somewhere between 1.5-2 and slam some 18" on it as well. bodykit is still in debate....personally think its useless...so....probably not going to get it.

yeah the jrsc is the jackson racing supercharger. itself is about $3500. but you can probably find a used one for much cheaper than that or go in on a groupbuy. be cautious when buying a used jrsc though. as for lowering, anything greater than a 1.75" drop will require a camber kit. just keep that in mind. body kits serve little purpose other than to make the car look good. i dont' know what your style is but personally, a simple kit like the OEM or WWRS or even the mugen can make the prelude look incredible without making it look overly flashy.

i don't have a strut tower brace in front coz of the jrsc. it's in the way. anyway, if i were you, i'd get the neuspeed strut tower brace in the front. DC sports may look cool but have been known to flex too much. which by the way i have one lying in my closet if you're interested. the brace on my car is underneath. the rear strut tower brace crosses the trunk area. kinda confusing. but yeah, you can get both. though i dont' think the rear lower strut brace does much.

as for your suspension plan, it's a pretty good setup. myself, i have neuspeed sport springs with kyb agx adjustable shocks. the koni's are better quality but more expensive, but for the price the kyb's are pretty good. it dropped the front 1.75" and the rear 1.5". that's just the way they made the springs.

is your car a daily driver? there are some side effects to underdrive pulleys. your a/c won't work as good, and your battery will die faster, particularly if you're running any type of subs.

or [email protected]
i can pay you through pay pal.

anyhow, can you gimme the exact specs of your springs and shocks? i think i am going to buy the exact same set up as yours..... since you have a 98 SH and so do i..and since you dont need a camber kit and you havent ran into any problems... i am just gonna copy your set up. ahahahahah if that is ok with you.

let me know thanx

the strut tower brace i have is red polished. it's in good condition, but i'll have to scrounge around for all the parts, you're pretty much the first person that's expressed interest in it in a long while and i've all but forgot that i still had it. i'll give it to you for for $75 shipped if i can find all the parts.

and no, you can't copy my setup. jus playin. the neuspeeds springs will run you around $200, the shocks i got for $380 for all four. no modifications to install the shocks. they go right in. i'm not sure about the part numbers, so if you get them, make sure they're for the SH, not the base. the front suspension geometry between the base and SH are different and can't be interchanged. just FYI.

well i was once a rookie, such as yourself. so i put the rear lower strut brace on my car. it's a good cosmetic mod. besides it was a birthday gift. it's pretty much the only thing i have on my car that doesn't serve any real purpose.

keep browsin boards like this, pick up magazines like super street or sport compact, ask questions like you're doing, and you'll eventually pick up on things like i did. there's always more to learn though. i know people who have shit in their heads you wouldn't even want to imagine.

actually, $300 is a good price, especially for this kind of hood. most people ask anywhere b/w $350 and $400 for this hood.
