Re: 91 accord sputtering at highway speeds
Get a new distributor. The cam sensor pickup goes bad at high rpms and causes it to sputter and buck at highway speeds. The only was to fix the cam sensor pickup is to replace the distributor because it is built in.

Re: 91 accord sputtering at highway speeds
Just curious, if you put the gas pedal in a different position does it clear up? Just had the same thing and it was the O2 sens. that MUST be replaced with a Denso. If it eventually gets worse then kicks a 43 engine code then O2 sens is your prob.

Re: 91 accord sputtering at highway speeds
I would not replace a whole distributor yet. There are testing procedures for each of the three sensonrs located in the distributor. So start with this. But even before this - how old is your distributor cap, wires, spark plugs?
Good luck, Sam

Test distributor sensors. Unfortunately this year of Hondas are know for clogged EGR passages. You need to look into that too. Good luck, Sam

Re: 91 accord sputtering at highway speeds
How old is your fuel filter? You could be having a fuel starvation problem. Check fuel pressure while engine is at 3K RPM. Should be about 45 psi.

Re: 91 accord sputtering at highway speeds
Oil or red dust inside the distributor could cause the problem. Oil means the bushing and internal O ring are worn. As the bushing wears, the distributor shaft starts to wobble a little and then the O ring starts to leak oil which comes from the camshaft cover. Honda and Eric the car guy sez it is time to get a new distributor.
