Car dies when turning corner

need some advice on this one. Its rather odd . A 96 bonny . When fuel tank is between half and full it drives fine. But once you get to half tank it occasionally dies when going around sharp turn. requiring to pull over and wait a few secs then it starts right up. Usually then I go straight to nearest gas station and fill up. But it only takes around 8 gallons so there is plenty of gas in tank. We have avoided the problem by never letting it get to half tank. I was going to replace the fuel pump but how could the pump be the problem it wouldnt care how much gas was in the tank unless of course it was empty. The fuel strainer would be the same thing right? At half a tank the pump and strainer should both still be immersed in gas. I do think the sender is ok cause at half tank it takes around 8 gallons so its not an out of gas. Is it possible the tank is partly clogged cutting off the fuel from getting to the pump at lower levels??? or could the sender be bad shutting off the engine at lower levels?

We been driving this car this way for a year and like i said its ok as long as you fill it up at half tank. But is my daughters car and she forgts once in a while .

Any advice out there

Thanks

I would pull the pump out and check everything, it must be a tank/pump related issue, no?

Yeah -im going to pull the pump as soon as I can get around to it. Do you think i can get to the pump thru the trunk or have to drop the tank.??

Re: Car dies when turning corner

Its possible that a Baffle in the tank has broken away allowing the fuel to run away from the fuel pump on turns... I have seen some that were fine for the life of the car and others that all broke away allowing fuel to run away...

all you can do is drop the tank and check the assembly...

Thanks for the advice. The baffle makes sense. I am going to drop the tank this weekend.

Larry 220:
Please, tell me if you fix your baffle tank or you bought a new fuel tank.
If you had fix it, how do you do that?
I have the same issue in my Bonnie SSEi 1992.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Re: Car dies when turning corner

I dont think theres any way to get to the baffle to fix it. In fact I couldnt even see the baffle when looking in tank after I got it removed. All you can see is a plastic assembly that surrounds the fuel pump. The baffle I would guess is metal and sits under the plastic assembly. I could here the metal baffle sliding around when I would shake the tank.

I bought a new tank and fixed the problem. I also put new pump and stainer in while I had it apart.
