Lancia Stratos San Remo winner

Hi all,

This is another build finished a while ago. It was for a group build on another modelling forum, & is the Hasegawa kit built mainly from the box, just a few interior details & some p.e. fasteners on the outside added. Painted overall with zero paints white, with the red & black being Games Workshop acryic paints. All clearcoated with zero clear. Flourescent orange/red wheels were brushpainted as I couldn't get the paint to airbrush! I couldn't find many period reference pics of this particular car, so don't know how accurate it is! (I do know the black should actually be a matt finish, but I was rushing to finish it & still haven't got round to putting a matt coat on!)

Hope you like her!

Perfect Stratos! With the paint and airbrush problem, just try to thin the paint a bit!

The problem was it was the last pot of acrylic fluo red I had in stock & must have been about 15 years old!! No matter how much I thinned it, or with what, or the pressure I used out of the compressor, it flatly refused to co-operate!!

I even had a jar of paint sit for a year, I thinned it so much and still no result, I got a little out but the other chunk was a glob of semi dry acrillyc! Don;t know what happened there!

Re: Lancia Stratos San Remo winner

Looks good. You mentioned the lack of pics to ensure accuracy - really, the only 2 inaccurate things I can see are: the cabin bulkhead behind the seats should actually be red & the rims weren't fluoro, but a deep red, darker than the body colour. Otherwise, I hope the very same kit I'm working on turns out as good. It is giving me no end of hassles at the moment.

Re: Lancia Stratos San Remo winner

Thanks Seamus,

Do you have pics of the bulkhead in red? I did mine that colour as that is what a works car in the Goodwood Festival of Speed had - but that could well have been restored with a different colour anyway! The bulkhead in that car was covered in a mustard yellowish, what I assume to be fireproof, heavy cloth - which I tried to replicate using multiple layers of tissue paper impregnated with dilute pva glue.

As to the wheels, the restored Pirelli car has the deep red wheels, but if you look at the pic of the period car on the kit box top, to my eyes at least they reflect the light of the camera flash like a fluoro paint does - & many works Strats at the time used fluoro red wheels. So that's my excuse & I'm sticking to it! (& I like them as well!)

Good luck with your build!

Keef
