1989 F-150 Randomly Died Now Wont Fire

K so i was on my way down the mountain after a nice couple hours of 4x4ing and i noticed my truck wasnt running. i stopped and it just wont fire. i thought maybe fuel pump so i put gas in the other tank but still nothing. its like its not fireing at all. it;s weird cause it ran fine all day exept once when it was sitting idling and my friend jumped in the seat to take off on me and it died as soon as she hit the gas. i jumped in and it just started fine then it was about two minutes later i noticed it had died. i'm so annoyed and confused can anyone help!?

If you for sure don't have ignition spark, the most common thing to go dead is the ignition module on the side of the distributor. You need a special, but inexpensive, tool to replace this.

It is also common for the coil and the PIP inside the distributor to go dead. Although the coil and PIP will usually come back alive after the engine sits a while.

On a 1989 you have a low pressure fuel pump in each tank, but the high pressure fuel pump is in the driver's side frame rail under about where the box and cab meet. It could be that high pressure pump or maybe a broken wire somewhere. I guess some troubleshooting would be in order. Good luck.
