05' coolant temp sensor / Check engine codes

Does anyone know if the temperature sensor that is in the lower part of the radiator is the same as the sensor that is mounted on the engine block ? The check engine light has come on and I have 3 codes showing up . I am not sure what parts to order. The codes are as follows.

P2185 Coolant temp sensor circiut high

P2183

P0111 IAT Sensor 1 Ckt Range/Perf

Am I receiving some of these codes as a result of others being on? How can I troubleshoot this problem ?

As far as I know the block sensor is for your dash: shows you the engine temperature.

The sensor in the radiator is for ECU. It must be bad, since you get a code. There must be a testing procedure for testing sensors. So do not replace it until you know it is bad.

I appreciate the feedback , are both sensors the same type just performng diffrent functions or are they 2 diffrent types of sensors. I ordered one and wanted to know if I can use it in either location.

As far as I know the sensors are different.

Unplug the connector that goes to the sensor and short it. If the fan comes on, then the sensor is bad.

If you give power directly to the fan and it comes on, then the fan is good.

You can also chech the sensor's resistance value but I do not know the numbers for your model.

Check with FSM or Haynes manual.

Well, I changed the lower radiator sensor (#2) and the problems have seemed to go away. I have driven the car now for 4 days and no new codes have come back. I loosened up the sensor and unscrewed it then quickly screwed in the new one, I might have lost 4 oz of antifreeze so it was much easier than draining the entire cooling system and trying to do it from underneath the vehicle was a mess too as there were allot of clips to remove to get the shroud off .There is plenty of room to reach if from the top.
