00 buick regal gs stalling

first off i want to thank everyone on this forum. i have gotten a lot of great info here. last thursday my car died in the middle of the street. it would turn over but then die after about 3 seconds. it was towed to a mechanic who told me that i needed a tune up. i paid for the tune up but when i got my car back the check engine light was on(MAF sensor code). when i attempted to clean the sensor i noticed it was unplugged. i cleaned the MAF sensor and plugged it back up. the next day i was on my way to autozone and the car died again. this time i went to a different mechanic who says that i need a new alternator and a MAF sensor. i personally dont think the alternator is bad. everything on the car works fine and from my experience when the alternator goes, it runs the battery down. should i try just getting a new MAF first? or is it possible the alternator is bad?

Re: 00 buick regal gs stalling

also, i did need a tune up. i spent a lot for the tune up and the alternator cost a lot to repair. i dont want to spend more than i have to. any help is appreciated. also every now and then the car will start for about 20 seconds and then it sputters and dies but normally it is only 2 or 3 seconds. also i do not have my car to test anything myself it is still at the shop. and it has a supercharger.

Welcome to AF>

Being supercharged, your issue may be the fuel pump resistor. It is mounted in the passenger front fender area, and when they fail, it causes your exact symptoms. You can try a by-pass of the resistor to test, here's the link from the Grand Prix forum.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=658282

If the car continues to run with the bypass done, then the resistor is your stalling issue. It is a dealer only part, GM# 88951182, dealer retail $57.59. You can leave it in the by-pass mode temporarily, but don't let your tank get below 1/4 while bypassed, otherwise you can suffer fuel starvation issues. This is the reason for the resistor in the first place, it slows the pump down to lessen the whirlpool effect caused by excessive fuel returning to the tank in low boost/rpm situations.

If your battery isn't going low, then you most likely don't have an alternator issue.
