Replacing Turnsignal Switch
I have taken off the airbag and I'm at the point to pull the wheel. There are the red and the white wires that I haven't seen on any of the tutorials around the net. Do these go to the horn? Looks like they are glued to the wheel.
The bolt in the center, do I just loosen or take it off? Either way that thing ain't budging right now. Gonna drown it with some PB Blaster. Any advice that will help me with this task would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ben

Re: Replacing Turnsignal Switch
The red/white wires are for the horn sounder. The connector through the wheel can be removed by depressing it slightly and turning it counter-clockwise about a quarter turn, then pulling it out, like a bayonet mount.
The steering wheel is mounted to the steering shaft with a tapered spline. You will need a puller to remove the wheel from the taper. Matchmark the wheel and shaft before removing it so it goes back on in the same orientation. You'll also need a lock plate depressor and might need lock ring pliers to remove the wire lock ring. The whole procedure will take you here:

Re: Replacing Turnsignal Switch
Yes, remove the bolt (I use a 1/2" drive and socket 'cause it is tight). Then, mark the steering wheel and shaft with a felt-tip (Sharpie) pen so that you can assemble it in the same orientation. I also marked the air-bag sensor orientation as well before I pulled it off.
Get a steering wheel puller (they're usually pretty cheap and saves a lot of headaches) to pull the steering wheel off. |

Re: Replacing Turnsignal Switch
I was trying to pull the old switch out thru the steering column and the end of it got snagged by something plastic and almost jammed it or I guess it did. I just went ahead and cut the old switch by the wires, shoulda done that in the first place.
Anyway by now I have the steering wheel put back together, but now when I turn the key it doesn't want to engage and I get a light that say brake come up on the dash. Did I MUCK something up? ![]() P.S. When I tested the signal lights they weren't flashing either

Re: Replacing Turnsignal Switch
Double check the connections at the base of the steering column. The dash warning lamps should turn on in a "bulb test" mode when the ignition switch is turned to the START position, so what you are describing may be normal.
