Drag Race Supra (sard/tamiya combo)
Yet another Supra build from me to go along with the other 2 projects i have (had to put the widebody aside for a few days)
like the title says this one is going to be a drag specific supra, and will most likely end up mimicking a combination of a few big boy drag supras. as you will see i am using the Sard supra chassis with the Tamiya supra body. this way i have a race chassis already made with a roll cage and everything. to fit the chassis into the body there was some modification required up front, but not much. the tamiya 2jz is going into the car, and as you can see i used the tamiya (street) dashboard to make the car look more like real drag supras. the seat is 90% done with carbon fiber etc. anyways, here are the pics: the cage half painted with the dashboard drying ![]() ![]() here is the steering wheel with the seat ![]() ![]() ![]() the drag wheels/tires going on the car (skinnies up front) already made to look like they did a few burnouts ![]() ![]() here is the front modded to fit the street body ![]() hopefully tmrw i can get the body/chassis painted so i can start putting it so me what together. i still need scratch build an engine mount to connect to the sard chassis. This 2jz is going to have a MONSTER single turbo (not bigger than a real life drag turbo though) that MIght require some hood modification to fit ![]() what do you guys think? |

Re: Drag Race Supra (sard/tamiya combo)
well i got some more work done on the car today, mainly the first stages of paint.
the color is a blue metallic paint. cant really tell on the body b/c i took the picture at night in the garage. its still drying, then i have some buffing to do, another coat of blue, then clear. but the chassis should be good to go, i will start assembly/engine work on the chassis pretty soon. seems like i have nothing done, but its just a bunch of little pieces being worked on separately but when the car starts coming together hopefully it will be quick... anyways, here you go: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Drag Race Supra (sard/tamiya combo)
well like i said once the chassis started coming together the progress would move along VERY fast. as you can see the rear and 95% of the interior of the car is done, and the wheels are test fitted, looks like a PErFEcT fit. but i had to remove the big sard racing brake rotor and caliper to fit these tires, now i have a big brake kit for the next project
. as you can see i TOTALY forgot to add the spoiler and the mirrors when painting the car... good thing i have a couple more sets of coats to give it so they should cover up just fine. the engine is only about 5% done as of right now.... the exhaust manifold is in the making, and the new engine mounts are made to attach the motor to the sard chassis. hopefully a few more wheels and this one will be done. i will admit, i am working on a few surprises on this one that i wont reveal until the end ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Drag Race Supra (sard/tamiya combo)
another update, i havent been able to work on the models too much since i have been putting in 13hour days at school...
but an update is an update. as you can see i am in the process of making a Giant turbo (still true to a size of a really big single turbo Drag supra), as well as making a hood cut out/scoop to fit it :![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() here you can see the "veilside" style manifold in the process of being made: ![]() ![]() custom engine mounts i had to make to situate the 2jz on the Sard chassis: ![]() and here you can see my custom one-piece carbon fiber drive shaft : ![]() cant wait to see how this model comes out finished, what do you guys think? |

Re: Drag Race Supra (sard/tamiya combo)
thanks man! my paint jobs are getting a bit better with every model. this one i actually took more time to sand and then put a layer of primer before spraying the blue metallic paint. there are still areas of imperfection wehre little bugs sat on teh car,2 spots you cant really see, this happened b/c i dont really have a "box" to paint the car in and had to do it away from the 2 real supras in the garage. but those spots will cover up when i spray the hood, mirrors, and spoiler. the car looks almost finished but now i got to the most detailed portion of the build.... and my favorite as well
the engine. tehre is a little surprise that is coming on this build that i hope will turn out as good as i envision it to turn out |

Re: Drag Race Supra (sard/tamiya combo)
so i went in to try to paint over the mirrors and the spoiler, and half way through the process i realized that instead of the blue metallic, the store stocked DARK BLUE which looks pretty identical in the bottle, lol. needless to say i had to strip the paint, primer, and respray, but im glad i did. the paint came out even better. and i have an update also
![]() ive been workin on this for a few days now and im pretty excited about how it came out, check this out ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and the part that im reallly excited about ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the parachute is completely scratch-built, i used a bunch of stickers i had to make it seem more realistic. the chute release cable is actually fed into the tailight keyhole just like in the real supras. now all i have left to do is mount the front wheels, fabricate a fuel pump and run fuel lines to the engine bay, AND build the engine as it only has a BIG turbo/manifold and a carbon fiber valve cover. i will also need to mount the intercooler and make an exhaust. what do you guys think? |

Re: Drag Race Supra (sard/tamiya combo)
it most definitely has been a fun build. slow at the start, but once the parts started comin together it started looking really good really quick
i cant wait to get the engine work done on it, and i just found out i have some intercooler fitment issues i'll have to work out b/c it doesnt quite fit. but stay tuned, its almost done |
