Mont sport horn won't stop, had to pull fuse

Can anyone tell me how to fix this. It started blaring around 2:30 AM Sunday. (Not fun). Tried alarm switch, smacked sterring wheel horn. No help. Pulled fuse. it's a 2002, never had a problem before.

It should be pretty simple, either the steering wheel switch is stuck on, the theft alarm is activating the relay or the relay is shorted to ground on the control side.

Re: Mont sport horn won't stop, had to pull fuse

If you want a cheap temporary fix where you don't have to tear apart anything as far as steering wheel or anything, go to advance or autozone and get a universal pushstart horn button.

You already know the horn is on with fuse in, horn is off with fuse out.

Also get an inline fuse holder and crimp on end connectors that will fit down into the socket where the fuse goes in the fuse panel. Also get some butt connectors. Also get a roll of 16 guage wire.

Take the crimp on connector, crimp it to the one end of the inline fuse holder. Take the fuse out of the fuse panel for the horn, put it in the inline fuse holder. Take that connector and plug into the side of the horn fuse socket that already has power. Then get some wire and connect to the other end of your inline fuse with the butt connector, have the wire long enough to reach up to your dash wherever you want to install the horn button. Hook up to your horn button, then hook up another wire from the other side of the horn button long enough to reach down to the other side of the horn fuse socket, put the connector on it, push into the socket.

Now your horn will work when you push the new button you bought, unless the problem you have now ever fixes itself on its own, then you would have to push that button and your steering wheel in at the same time.

Re: Mont sport horn won't stop, had to pull fuse

Just fyi, I loved (past tense) my montero Sport. Toughest truck I ever owned. The horn problem is in the airbag/horn compartment on the steering wheel. In the severe cold as the compartment (moisture) freezes and expands? possibly? and the horn goes on, Just bang the airbag/horn area (I use my fist and it stops) The Mits mechanic told me to just whack it with something. "That was easy" Now I have an 09 H.Sonata. Another nightmare on wheels. Tune in folks, We're just gettin started!

Re: Mont sport horn won't stop, had to pull fuse

At Monterosport.com, there was a post about this happening when someone plugged a cell phone into the auxiliary power socket. Turns out, if the aux power fuse is blown, it somehow backfeeds to the anti theft system and sounds the alarm.

I am currently looking for the location of the aux power fuse.... It is shown in the manual of my 00' but I do not see it where it should be acording to the picture in manual. (Adjacent to the cabin fuse block above drivers left foot.)
