97 cavalier wont stay running period

i have a 97 cavalier that i have had lots and lots of problems with. first it was my dash was going nuts and my day time running lights would flash and when i shift gears the radio would cut out. i put a ground strap on it and it fixed all the elctrical problems. but now no matter how much i crank on my car it starts up 2 seconds and dies.i dont know if it could be a clogged cat or if its the crankshaft postion sensor. no check engine light and the theft light is solid so i know it aint that? any suggestions

just in case turn the key to the on position for ten minutes then try and start it the security light should go out

Don,t know if this helps but I have a 94 cavalier in shop right now to have fixed and one of the problems is the same as yours. My mechanic says it may be a bad ignition switch or on my 94 it has an ajustment under the dash on the steering colomn that sometimes gets out of ajustment and has to be reset. he said he noticed that when he turned it over and did not let the ignition switch go all the way back it tryed to stay running. I don,t know if your car is set up the same way but maybe someone else knows if it is. Hope this helps.
