Tamiya Ferrari F40

New WIP in my growing WIPs. Picked this up couple weeks ago and it's my first Ferrari build. I hope this will turn out good. It'll be OOB only so no PE parts or such. Upon arrival though, I've noticed that the exhaust has been damaged slightly so I'll see if I can fix it later on. I also took a different color approach as I've seen too many red and yellow Ferrari builds so I wanted to go with silver as I have seen one custom F40 in a very nice silver before.

Comments and criticisms are welcome as always.

First coat of silver and engine block.

Second and final coat. Waiting for it to be cured for the clear.

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

you forgot to sand the mold line on the front hood? Should look different in silver.

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

^ I did sand it as much as I could but the line won't go away. I just have to deal with it unfortunately since this is the older Tamiya version, not the reissue one so it's a bit brittle. =|

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

Silver is a rare choice for F40, as I have never seen a pic of it before!
Btw, are you sure that is a mold line on the hood?

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

It's somekind flash that is visible thru the paint.. did you use primer to hide it? There is more mold lines on top of the door.. it seems you haven't sanded them at all..?

Anyway nice car and fresh colour choise.. haven't seen many in silver.

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

Yeah, I have primered it twice but the line still shows up on the hood. But I missed the mold lines on the doors till after I painted it so I will have to redo it now. Maybe this time it'll go away after I fix it.

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

The line on the hood is what is called a ghost line. See my tutorial here for tips on how to deal with it:
http://italianhorses.net/Tutorials/Primer/primer.htm
512BB, you have not seen silver F40 because all of them left Maranello painted red. All other colors are non-factory repaints.

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

Not exactly a stock F40, but this one is a lightly modified LM looking F40

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

Thanks for the tutorial 360. It helps. I sanded the mold lines on the doors and fixed some errors, but that line is still there on the hood after I repainted it so I'm going to leave as I already spent too much paint on it. I'm going to use the Tamiya part for the rear mesh. Not that great, but like I said, it's a OOB build so I won't be using PE parts.

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

Some progress.

Finished the decals on the body, waiting for it to dry up and stick for the clear coat.

Tires and brakes

Engine all done (you can see the damaged exhaust as I received it like that.

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40

Thanks. Some more progress.

A problem occurred while I was applying the clear. The Ferrari decals on the side disappeared on me and now I don't have any decals for the sides. >_<
