Fuel gauge

I have a 96 grand voyager 3.0l 3 speed. Once in a while you will be driving and here a warning bell go of and the fuel light flash on and off and the needle for the fuel will move a little.
Does anyone know what might cause this.

Thanks

Re: Fuel gauge

Common problem usually caused by the sender unit in the fuel tank. It's part of the fuel pump assembly. Change the pump and you've replaced the sender. My 96 has been doing it for years. I just live with it because it might do it every day for a month then it's fine for 3 or 4 months and once the fuel level gets below 7/8ths of a tank it stops.
