Stability System Disabled Message
I have an '05 Z71 Avalanche with 106K miles. On approximately 30% of my trips, the Stability Syst Disabled message appears on the message board. The only thing that I can think of that might be a factor is that I realized that I had a broken left rear shock a few weeks back. However even after replacing both rear shocks, the problem persist. The only thing suspension wise thst I see wrong is that it seems that a bushing on the rear stabilizer bar is weak, I assume resulting from wear from the broken shock situation.
Anyone have a suggestion on where to start? Thanks! |

Re: Stability System Disabled Message
By Stability system, do you mean the StabilTrac system ? If so the StabilTrac is more to do with traction than the shocks. The StabilTrac system takes readings from the steering wheel position sensor as well as the ABS sensors for each independent wheel, and when it detects the vehicle "turning" via the wheel speed sensors but the steering wheel sensor is at the 0° meaning the steering wheel is not turning, most likely the vehicle is skidding. It will then apply braking appropriately to the wheels that will best control / stop the skid. You could possibly have an ABS wheel sensor problem or it could be as retarded as my Avalanche was about 6 months ago when it displayed the "Service StabilTrac system" message. When I had it scanned, the sensor that caused the code was the steering wheel position sensor. They cleared the code to see if it would come back and so far it has not.
