2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Speakers

My wife blew the tweeters in our Jeep. I have the Infinity soud system. I wat to know two things. One us would I be better off getting another pair of infinity tweeters, or aftermarket. And two how much of a pain in the ass will it be to change them, should I get someone else to do it for me?

Changing the factory tweeters is a breeze.
Use a wide blade putty knife to pull/pry up the section of dash right below the windshield - then disconnect the speakers.

Now......many will tell you to replace them with cheap Chinese made speakers, but I would never put that junk in a infinity equipped Jeep - it just wont sound the same.
Not to mention it's impossible to find a direct fit replacement for the Infinity "2 1/5 speakers without modifying the speaker holes.
Bite the bullet and buy factory replacements, you'll be glad you did. Good prices on ebay.

ps. Your wife probably didn't "blow them"...just like the rest of your Jeep everything has a limited lifespan.

Thanks for that. I dont think I want anymore infinity speakers, now she is telling me the regular front speakers are blown. I have talked to alot of people and most of them say that infinity isnt really good. BTW if you meant my jeep had a limited life span b/c it sucks. I hate to break it to you. The last Jeep I had, A 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4. Lasted me from 1996 to 2001 and not a problem in it. And in one more year im planning on getting a 2006 maybe 2006( depends on what part of the year) Jeep. So to me and my friends and family that have jeeps they all say the are very reliable. The I-6 on this jeep will pretty much outlast any other american made motor (that is if it is still made in america) So if you are saying Jeep sucks and if not. SORRY

Where did you read into my reply that I said Jeeps suck?
My former 1989 Jeep Cherokee had 200k mi on it when I sold it.
My current 2001 Grand also has the tried and proven 4.0L and it's a good design.
But Jeeps aren't exactly the epitome of reliability either...if you own one then you know what I mean.

Limited lifespan means just what it implies; every part on every Jeep, or any other car, will at some point wear out or break. Period. No need to get defensive.
If you don't think Infinitys are that good, then by all means use what suits you...that's why when my tweeters went they were replaced with OEM Infinitys. I'm not going to second guess Chryslers acoustic engineers and substitute something that wasn't designed for a Jeep premium sound system based on what other people think or just to save a few bucks.
And my stereo sounds great again...

Do the research... The "regular front" speakers are actually the subwoofers in the infinity system. They provide the bass with very little identifiable music (such as vocals). The rear speakers and the tweeters provide this function.

I too have to replace my front tweeters. I am having problems finding replacements w/o paying the OEM price of $120 from Jeep.

Re: 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Speakers

In my opinion, if you really like listening to music and the front are blown, might as well just get some componets all around, the downside to that is it can be expensive for some good componets. There are kind of hard to install b/c if there is no crossovers, then you have to install them yourself, it sucks.

My 1999 dash speakers were blown also. I saw a post sometime back about a company named 12positive.com and gave them a try. They give a good explanation of why the speakers blow in the first place, then provide a fix. I ordered the full replacement kit which includes 2 Pioneer tweeters with a capacitor installed on the speaker to handle the bass that gets through and blows the speakers. The kit also came with instructions, a dash panel removal tool, wire stripper (I had been wanting one anyway), stubby Phillips head screwdriver and all wire connectors. It took me about 20 minutes and $59.99 including S&H to complete the job and they sound great.

Re: 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Speakers

Well after countless hours of researching I decided to go ahead and give 12Positive a try BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!

The tweeters arrived 2 weeks after placing my order and to be honest not only looked sub-par but the sound was definitely not there... I contacted them to return them and they never replied... i filled a dispute on my credit card and go my money back in the end but they never asked me to return the tweeters... cant say I blame them... The installation process is really not that difficult.

I just got a set from www.jeeptunes.com and they arrived 4 days after placing my order and are a solid 1 piece constructed tweeter. They sound perfect and I am very satisfied.... I am not affiliated with them or any other company but was very impressed with their product and customer service.....2 thumbs up...

take care all.....

Re: 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Speakers

You can also repair the originals. Both my dash tweeters were blown and I did a lot of searching as well.

I chose to fix them. Cut around the edge of the protective cover(very carefully). I found that the speaker worked perfectly and the outer edge(the foamy flexible part) was torn. I simply put a bead of silicon caulking around the entire edge, not too much, but enough. I then put the protective cover back on while it was wet, helping to secure and strengthen it.

It's been 2 years now and finally 1 of them has given out. The other is still going strong. I like the bass up high too...

For the actual OEM tweeters call 401-596-2077 American C-D-J or email [email protected].

I bought 2 of these off ebay part # 56038411ac cost 41.25 + shipping

Stock tweeters and work great also easy to install.

Good Luck
