New hub assemblies are on order

I have a '98 GTP 2-door. I was wondering if my front hubs were going, but it did not seem like there was any kind of problem, so I figure I'd play it by ear (pun intended). I was coming home from work a few weeks back, and was the only car on the road, when I came across a dozen or so boys walking along the side of the road on the sidewalk. It was a four-lane divided road and I was going about 40MPH. As I approached, one of the little MFs turned and threw a snowball, (more like an iceball) at me and hit the side of my car. What do I do now? Well, I slammed on the brakes, threw it in reverse and slammed on the gas. They immediately scattered like coach roaches in the light. I backed up to the last side road ( that they were all running down) and through it in drive and went chasing. They all dispersed over fences and between houses as I shouted profanities at them. Anyway, fast forward to now. My front bearings sound like they are now shot. When I hit about 35 MPH, it sounds like I am inside a jet engine. It is terrible! It feels like the front end is going to come undone. I am fairly sure it is the bearings. I ruled out most everything else. I have ordered one of the two front bearing assemblies this morning. I've read about how to do the repair on this site and feel I am ready.

Re: New hub assemblies are on order

Little pieces of **** need to have their ***** kicked in.
Maybe one day they'll do that to the wrong car and end up getting shot through the spine and learn a valuable lesson. Little ***cks like that always get theirs sooner or later.

If you're bored, you should do a step-by-step write-up with pics on your hub replacement (if there isn't one already). Thanks to someone's write-up I was able to replace the axle on our Jeep all by myself. Yeah! Me!

Bunch of idiots. Too bad you didn't catch them. Good luck with the hubs.

Which brand of hub assemblies did you order? You would do well if it's either Timken or OEM AC/Delco. Stay away from foreign hubs from overseas and / or the cheap hubs on e-Bay like the plague.

Re: New hub assemblies are on order

Gm's the only way to go, I replaced one of mine with a BCA brand that had a 1 yr warrenty and guess what? 11 months later the new one was bad, so it went back. I've got my fingers crossed hoping that the new one wont go back after another 11 months.

Re: New hub assemblies are on order

I did this repair on 4/1/10. Front passenger side. It went pretty well. My father was helping me and I had just put the three bolts in that hold it on and went around to the driver's side to turn the wheels back to the middle. When I came back around, my dad was putting the axle nut on with an impact. When he reached the end of easy turning, he stopped. So I calibrate the torque wrench and go to torque it and its already there. So I told him I needed to back it off and re-do it. So I put the impact on and backed it off and then re-did it. Was that valid? I hope it was not damaged.

Also, I am hearing a popping sound coming from there now and am wondering if my CV joint is next on the list. It seems to happen when turning corners. Could this have been damaged put pushing it in to get the hub out, or was it another casualty of chasing the brats down? Thanks.
