MFH 1979 512 LM "Cloud Car"

Ed Sexton sent me this kit to build for him.... I will be delivering it to him in April at the NNL East in NJ.... I love these high dollar kits I get to build for him. Last year it was a 312PB so this one will be every bit as challenging as that one... Just a little newer type car.

Here is the car in its restored glory....

And of course in MFH fashion, Multimedia at its finest.... white metal. resin, PE, brass, Carto decals... and lots more! Its such a treat to open up one of these kits....

I started massaging the body panels with 400-600 grit, which as you can see are a combo of white metal and resin.... This time I will make sure all panels fit perfectly before I paint them! Like others have said including Alex, this fit is horrid.... took alot to get it to the stage its at but I still have more to go... I wont be opening the doors.....

Its a wicked car with great lines and with all the different material that wreaks MFH.... should be a stunner when I get it done.... more soon...

COOL! A new MFH thread. I think this 512BB is one of the most detailed kits they make. I can't wait to see how the engine looks. Maybe this will motivate Alex to revive his build and we can have THREE builds going?

I am sure this will be another great, clean build

Almost a contradiction in terms, isn't it?

Don't get me wrong, I am actually a fan of MFH kits for their subject matter and the overall pleasure and satisfaction they give in putting together, but the sometimes atrocious fit still grates, given the money one lays out.

If any other kit manufacturer delivered similar fit quality, we'd have their ba*ls for dinner. A good sign of the brand value in MFH LOL

Be careful, that car in your picture has the later body style, not the body style of the real cloud cars.

Here are pictures of the actual Lemans ISO 512BBLM cloud car taken at Road America in July. The owner lives in Chicago. This car also ran at Daytona in 1979. I have alot of Ferrari photos that I took on that photobucket account.

This is the first of the LMs, chassis 26681 and the car is for sale at Symbolic Motors with a bunch of good photos on their site:

Michael Sheehan has a good run-down on the chassis numbers for the LMs here:

That is correct. Not sure how long it will take to sell in this economy if the owner holds out for a good selling price. It was for sale in July at the Ferrari convention, Road America. There is another guy also from this area who owns 2 512BBLM's, one is the European University car. Its in almost original as raced back in 1982 condition. His other car is a NART 512BBLM. You can see them all on my photobucket account.

Re: MFH 1979 512 LM "Cloud Car"

The car pictured at the start of this thread is labeled on several sites as being 26685 - which would mean it is, indeed, an original cloud car. Owned by Nigel & Shirley Chiltern-Hunt as of July 2009.

Your right, but the bodywork had heavy changes by the factory that make it incorrect for a 1979 Lemans cloud car. Use the Iso 512BBLM car for reference as it is the only true 1979 cloud car left.

Ah, I remember when Alex started his, and how much work everything needed to fit properly. It looks like you're well on your way with this one though.
