Need Help Quick (How-To would be great) on sedan handle swap into my crx

Ok, well right now me and my bro are in the process of putting in my alarm/keyless entry. I bought some sedan handles that I'm trying to put on my CRX right now too. The problem is, I'm stuck and have no idea wat to do. Basically the only thing I've done is take off the orginial handles. I cant get the new ones on for sh*t tho. If anyone knows a how-to with pics or if anyone can tell me exactly what I need to do I would greatly super appreciate it. Thanx, plz hurry

-BMan

PS That washington college Mark Paco link thing isnt working for me, so I need another site if someone knows it. Thanx

Dude...what part did you remove???

When I took the EX handles off at the junkyard, I left most of the assembly intact. I took off the two 10 mm bolts that bolt it to the door, and then I untwisted the handle off the threaded rod, being careful not to scratch the paint on the door as I twisted..that seemed the easiest way to me.

I think I also loosened the catch part (3 big phillips screws in end of door) to loosen up the whole thing and make it easier to manipulate...it wouldn't hurt to do that anyway to adjust it properly after re-install.

Good Luck.

Yeah, thats wat i did, and i got the ones off my car, but the handle goes on differently than the stock handle. The crx handl has the hole that u twist on off to the side while the rear handles hole is in the middle.

DOH!

You might have to get the linkage then too...

Ami has done this swap so she might be able to help when she reads this.

My plan was simply to take the painted EX handles and swap them into their respective locations on my DX (which currently has unpainted handles) - Sorry I couldn't help more fellow Redneckville buddy

Here's how I did it.

Once you've got the original handles and lock-rod removed, look at the sedan handles...

On the handles from the sedan, there's a rod that goes all the way across the handle pivot with the post in the center with a threaded hole through it.

On the civic/crx handles, they don't have this rod that goes across, and instead, the post with the threaded hole (used for attaching the latch armature to the handle) is off to the side.

So, what you have to do is remove the rod from the sedan handles. To do this, there is a plastic clip on the end of the rod. You need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to spread the split end of the plastic clip apart and pull the rod end back through the clip. You can leave the plastic clip in the handle because you will need to use it later, or you may have to remove the clips to make sure you can attach the armature on the proper side of the handle.

Here's a diagram:
Red=Handle
Blue=Plastic Clip
Green=Connecting Rod
Purple=Post with threaded hole

You use the same process to remove the post with threaded hole from the original handles...

What I did then was bolted the handles to the door, and then threaded the post onto the armature, and just popped it into the handle when the post was threaded at the proper height...

I meant to take some pics when I did the swap, but I forgot...

Hope that helps

Thanx that helps a lot. One more thing, the handle looks too be a tiny bit bigger (like like 5 mm maybe less), will this matter or is it normal? Thanx

Doubtful, just test-fit the sedan handles before going through with all the other crap just to make sure. Shouldn't be a problem though... When you put the handles next to each other, they just look different, so maybe it's just an illusion...

Alright, I finally was able to try your how-to, but i just cant figure it out. I may have bought the wrong handles...hopefully not, but i got pics which will hopefully let you tell me why I'm such a dumbass, or more importatntly exactly wat it is i need to do. Thanx

Now if anyone has any more advise plz feel free, my car goes into to get paint/kit in a few weeks, so i need these on by then, if they're even the right ones.

Those handles look nothing like the ones I got... The spring mechanism is completely different, as is the mounting holes... I think you got the wrong handles...

Yeah I have my sedan handle right in front of me and it doesn't look the same at all on the top parts. Maybe you got Integra Sedan rear door handles?

Or accord handles or something... Hmm...

The installation should still be the same though, so see if they fit?

Ok I just did this swap 5 minutes ago so its fresh in my head. The ones I got off the DX Sedan at the junkyard worked fine. All you gotta do is swap out the metal bar at the top of the handles and bolt them right up and they work fine. Makes your car look nice and clean to.
