96 3.8L charging issue
I have a 96 3.8L windstar that has had very few problems until recently. I had a remote car starter installed last week. I made it 6 miles from the shop. After a little testing I determined that the alternator was bad. I put in a reman unit and still only charges to 6 volts. I have done some testing and found that one of the wires from the voltage regulator isn't getting voltage. One is supposed to have 12 volts all the time the other should have one with the key off and 12 with the motor running. What do I do from here, I am afraid that the starter fried the PCM. (I have removed the remote starter)

Re: 96 3.8L charging issue
Check fuse "T" in the engine compartment fuse/relay box.
Fuse "T" is for the alternator.....and you will not charge if it is blown.

Re: 96 3.8L charging issue
I have checked all of the fuses and relays, I also changed the battery and the cables. Still not charging right. I have to wait for another alternator to come in on Tuesday, think that the voltage regulator is gone again.

The splices they made to install your remote ignition has screwed up something. Take it back to that shop, that is no coincidence that it goes out leaving the shop. Make them go over all their splices as they have probaby screwed something up. |
