Intake manifold question

I'm going to put a 350 block into my '67 El Camino. Not having the 283 it originally came with, my question is: Is it a big deal to put a period-correct intake manifold (with oil filler tube) onto any old late-model 350 block? I already have the plain "Chevrolet"-script valve covers, and I know all 350s after '68 had the oil filler on the valve covers. I just want a reliable driver, but I would like it to look correct under the hood whether the numbers match or not. Thanks in advance.

You need to assure ther crankcase ventilation systems are still operating. The filler pipe MAY have a PCV valve in it. Some did. If not, there's supposed to be one in the rear of the block where the road draft tube "used" to go. That provision is not there in a 350 block.

IMO, you would be better off instaling a PCV vale in one valve cover and a "breather cap" in the other. Some of the aftermarket valve covers make this easy and "purdy".

i have a original matching numbers 283 completely rebuilt if you are interested...it came out of my 67 chevelle....i have a 454 bb in there now
im from connecticut don't know where you are from...im asking 1000.00
for it.

I'd say it's up to your preference. If you want it to be as correct as possible then you should go for the period correct unit. If you don't care that much about it being period correcr, then I'd say use whatever you can get your hands on that will work, be reliable and not bust your wallet.

I've used the older 327 style intakes on later 350 engines. I generally remove the oil filler tube and block it off with a Dorman expandable rubber plug.

These are stock car motors I do this on and want to limit where oil can come out of. I run 2 breathers/oil fills on the driver's side valve cover.

I just think that with the later valve covers, the old oil filler is not so good looking.
