Nissan Sentra Alternator or Battery Problem

I have a 2004 Nissan Sentra with 149K miles on it. Runs great, but recently it does some crazy stuff. While driving the batter light will come on and then a minute later the car will stop. When it stops it just sits in idle and the gas will not work. After a couple of minutes everything goes back to normal. It's weird. I had the battery and alternator and they check out okay. What could it be?

Re: Nissan Sentra Alternator or Battery Problem

I agree, it's weird.

It's sound like a short or open circuit somewhere. Usually, when the batt light is on randomly and the alternator is good, it's either a bad contact or a short circuit in alternator wires or in fuse box area.

I suggest you to check battery and alternator voltage next time you see the batt light and when car stops (w/ engine running). If it's below 13V, it's definitively an open/short circuit in the alternator connection.

I think when your battery discharge your throttle body relay stops working (cause it's under 13V) so it doesn't rev up, thus no motion. But not sure, I don't know nissan very well. So check also throttle body movement while pressing on gas next time your car stops.

A Windstar without having the check engine light is not a real Windstar.
