Question 1987 Jetta Radiator Fan Runs

It's been relatively cool here in the east over the last several weeks, outside temp at night in the upper 30's. When I turn off my Jetta, after a several seconds, I hear the radiator fan go on "low". It will cycle (on/off) periods of about 30-45 seconds in between for about 2 minutes or so.

When I turn it off, the temp gauge is in the middle, usually right after driving it at normal speed, so it does not sit idle for a while prior to turning it off. I recall that happening during very warm days in the summer and the fan runs on high to further cool the engine.

While driving the gauge is in the middle as always, over the red warning light.

Any advice or input?

Thanks,

Roger

Have you checked the thermoswitch on the radiator and the after run sensor on the engine? I know there is a relay in there somewhere, but I can't remember where.
