This is driving me NUTS! I checked the whole exhaust pipe from the front to the rear making sure the rubber isolation mounts are ok and the pipe is not rubbing on anything. I then checked the rear muffler heat shield to make sure it is not touching the muffler. Now the focus is on the rear strut/strut mounts. The car only has 23K miles. WTF? It only happens on hard right turns. The left turns are OK. Double WTF? Any help to this migraine would be appreciated! Thanks! PS. I sprayed WD 40 all over the rear struts to help pinpoint the problem but, still have all the noises.

Re: 2001 Cavalier has a vibration/thunk from the rear ONLY while making right turns.
strut mounts are notorious for going on these cars. Still wouldn't be surprised if it was one of those.

The same thing was happening to me on left turns, eventually my muffler broke off.

You sure it's from the back?
