Speed Sensor Shift Issue 1990 Lumina Euro 3.1

I just spent lots of cash on my old 1990 Euro with new fuel injectors and brakes. The one last nagging issue was that the speedometer did not show the correct speed. I went to Autozone and the guy behind the counter said it sounded like the speed sensor. I tried to replace it but the cheap Autozone part would not fit properly and it even caused me to crack a small ear off the trans case while trying to tighten it. Anyway, I obtaind a correct AC Delco part from the Dealer and it fits fine and even epoxyed the broken off small ear from the trans housing case.

There is no error codes but now the transmission won't shift out of first gear. There is another adjacent lead from the same harness that goes to a sensor on the passenger side, lower end of the engine block. I am sorry to say that this brittle plastic fitting end got damaged a little on this other lead while I was wrenching on the speed sensor. I tried to put it back together but it really needs a new harness fitting end. The dealer parts guy did not know what I was talking about and I cannot identify it in the GM service manual. I also don't know what this sensor is for? I wonder if this is the root of the none shifting out of first gear problem?
