problem while filling fuel in the tank
Hallo,
I bought a Hyundai accent hatch back with automatic transmission 2002 U.S model. My car is excellent except,I have a problem that,While filling up the petrol tank, the petrol doesnt flow normally inside the tank and it starts overflowing (slightly)outside whether tank is empty or half filled.I have to slowly pump the petrol in the tank. When the Mechanic try to remove the tank pipe and see any blocks, there seems to a black box adjustant to the fuel pipe, contains a small 2mm cyindrical shaped fine cut carbon present in the box which is connected to a rubber tube the tank pipe probably for absorbing moisture. My mechanic is not aware of this carbon and doesnt know how to overcome the problem. The petrol filter is good condition and there is no problem while starting the car or in motion. I request you to kindly assist me over this problem. Thankyou. Surya. Last edited by surya; 06-25-2008 at 07:53 AM. |

Re: problem while filling fuel in the tank
I've never had or seen this problem in my repair work but have heard of it.
The black box along the filler tube is referred to as a "Tank air filter" by Kia and Hyundai. It's part of the emissions group and "might" be your problem. This filter is a service replacement item. Consult your owners manual for the interval recommendation. The bottom line is if this filter has never been replaced, I'd do it. It might fix your filling issue providing the filler pipe has no issues. Most dealers will avoid or overlook this item.
