ECS Sport Light Flashes

I did do a little searching on the forums and found that some people suggest that if the "Sport" light magically starts flashing when driving that there is some type of problem with the ECS system. However nobody really confirmed it, the idea was just thrown around.

I noticed that my car, if I do not turn on the "Sport" mode before driving, will occassionally start blinking after driving for awhile. However, if I do turn the sport mode on, the light stays on the entire time the car is on and does not blink. The weird thing is, if when driving it starts flashing and I push the ECS button nothing happens, it just continues to blink. Now I don't really notice a huge difference when/if I turn the sport mode on, but was wondering if anybody has had this happen and actually figure out if it was malfunctioning or not, or if for some reason my ECS wants to start making suggestions as to what mode it should be in lol.

BTW the car is a '92 SL with stock suspension as far as I know.

Re: ECS Sport Light Flashes

one of your ECS caps could be bad, a bad shock/strut... it could be a few things.

you can just unplug it, and it will stop flashing.

Re: ECS Sport Light Flashes

pull off the caps on top of the struts and make sure all the wiring harnesses are secure and the wires look good. You can also check the ECS control module in the hatch and look over those connections.

I posted an excerpt from the manual on 3Si with regards to trouble shooting the ECS and the codes to narrow down the defective componet(s). Please see the following:

Re: ECS Sport Light Flashes

Thanks everyone who made suggestions. 91STT, your post was extremely helpful. When I get my car back from getting a new clutch/t-belt/water pump I will borrow a voltmeter and see if I can get a code.

Just to clarify, the data link connector specified in the repair manual is the OBD connector...?
