Went to the Track on Sunday

Took the Bullitt, a s/c RSX-s, an RSX-s with a CAI, and an RSX-s with exhaust to one of the local tracks with some other buddies who wanted to see the festivities.

My first run with my shit tires consisted of spinning all thru first, the gear change into second got me sideways, and then I missed 3rd I got an amazing 16.0 at 93 while the RSX with exhaust I was up against got a 15.9 on his first run.

My second I did the launch lower, (I had asked a friend before the first run who went who has a mach 1 how he launches. Apparently a 3k slip doesnt work with bald all seasons for me.) but I ended up bogging it and had the traction control on, while missing 3rd again. Ran a stupendous 15.1 at 96.

3rd time I lowered my tire pressure to 15psi on the back, and made sure the traction control was off. Got a better 60 foot time of 2.3 (still crap), didnt miss 3rd and got a 14.2, but the thing wasn't working properly so I couldn't get a slip for it, and I dont know what my trap speed was.

That was my best run of the day, I couldn't get any traction with 60 foots of 2.4-2.5. I would either spin or it would bog getting me 14.6's . the S/C RSX got a best of 13.6 at 107 with similar problems of traction, while the CAI RSX got a 15.0 at 92 and the exhaust RSX got a 15.3 at 91.

Lesson of the day- I need new tires.

Re: Went to the Track on Sunday

Yeah, seriously. Next time I go I will have some good tires. I think with them a 14.0 or high 13 is possible if I am still stock, which I hopefully won't be.

Re: Went to the Track on Sunday

you know it!! You will def see at least a flat 14 with decent tires. Definitely get some light wheels too. Huge difference!!!

Wait!! Most gt's should run a 14.0. You oughta do better than that for sure!!

Re: Went to the Track on Sunday

Best mag time I've seen for my car was a 13.6 at 103, but that was one of those private track bs that is impossible to replicate for the normal guy. I think my wheels are around 26 lbs, a little on the heavy side, but I like the look of torq thrusts, even if they gave me 2 different colors

Re: Went to the Track on Sunday

Ehh, a 14.2 sec. pass isn't all that bad. Usually mustangs can pull a good 60' time (They have a better suspension then LS powered F Bodies). You should be able to get a 2.2 sec. 60' easy, and most likely a 2.1 sec. 60'. Evan Smith ran a bullit to that 13.6 sec. pass, but that guy is leagues better then 99% of drag racers you'll come across, and he had a track all to himself most likely.

I bet it was fun to run at the track though.

dont worry about it cassies, FWD = very hard to launch, now you know the problem I have with the jetta. They dont stay planted and they like to hop, though the MS3 should be easier to launch because of the LSD it has. you'll get it into the 13's after a few tries, but I suggest you hold off on the modding till you learn to launch it.

Lol. I already have the catless midpipe in the mail, HKS SSQV waiting to go one once I get this snap ring nonsense down, and a boost leak to fix. I don't really think all that much of 1/4 mile numbers, not with this car. It was never meant to be a 1/4 track monster, almost all my racing is done from a roll anyways. I'll most likely hit up the track a few more times, but it isn't the number one thing on my priority list. My next big thing is getting to a dyno.

I was slipping the clutch perfectly, minimal hop or spin. We have identified some things that may have caused crap times

1) Texas Motorplex hooks like no fucking other. You can't even walk in the staging area around the lines its so damned sticky. I've been in the staging areas/up at the lights at Kennendale and Denton Dragway (both 1/8) and neither of them are anywhere near as sticky as Ennis (Texas Motorplex). That, and I always managed to line up against some damned outlaw class or caged car.

2)I was launching waaaay low. One of the guys in the club was watching us just to watch (he ran a 13.3 on a catback/intake on stock boost), and said that from where he was sitting, it didn't look like I was hopping or any of that at all. What he did say is that he think I was launching way to low. I was focused more on the lights than I was anything else, and we both think I was hardly launching above 1500. He got is 13.3 by slipping it from 2600, lol.

3)First time jitters doing it at a track. The first two passes I ran, I was the entire time and not pushing it, force of habbit of watching for cops and traffic.

4)Tires. Bridgestone Potenzas are great twisty track tires, but everyone who has taken their Speed3 to the track has complained they don't hold well. And our RE050As are only 215s...I'm looking at a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons in 225/40ZR18. I'd rather go to the summer only tire, but Texas weather is all over the place, so I need the all seasons.

Re: Went to the Track on Sunday

I do most of my racing from a roll as well, I only get out to the track 2-3x times a year. You can always get a set of DR's for when you go, and make yourself feel alot better with a time you can't replicate on the tires you would drive 99.99% of the time.

I will tell you right now (as i had and still have the tires, though they are completly bald now) The stock tires are only good for the street, they suck everywhere else. on an autocross they are good for 2 runs then they give out on you. The best grip i have ever got on the stock tires is now when they are bald, lol.
