serpentine belt tensioner
I have a 95 Pontiac Grand Am . I'm trying to remove the tensioner but cant get to the nut .The spring inside has pushed the tensioner out which makes it even harder to get at the nut. What can I do to get this thing off?

Re: serpentine belt tensioner
jpolasko, no need to post duplicate threads.
![]() I have merged your two into one. If you cant get a wrench on the tensioner bolt, then the entire braket that's bolted to the engine might have to be removed from the motor. Sounds like the tensioner is busted anyway.

You might be able toget better access through the pass side wheel well. Removing the wheel and inner fender cover(plastic parts).

There are so many different depths of sockets, I'm sure you can get something that will fit it even if you have to put the socket on by itself and use vise-grips to turn it. Since you said the spring pushed out, that probably means there's no tension on it. If there's not, try cutting the spring and pushing the tensioner back into place to get at the bolt if you can't find anything to get it off.
