98 Malibu wont start

My 98 Malibu wouldn't start this morning. It cranks and the accessories work but nothing else happens. None of the instrument lights or gauges seem to work either when the key is turned on. No fuel gauge, idiot lights or anything else that usually light up on the dash when the ignition is turned on. I'm guessing that it has something to do with the ignition switch or the anti theft system. Although I thought that the anti theft system was supposed to prevent cranking. This problem seems to have disabled the entire starting system except the starter. Through my internet research today I've seen similar problems that implicate the Passlock II system as the culprit. I'd like to know if there is somewhere I can find a description of how this system is supposed to work. Or if someone else has had this problem....what was the remedy.

I am having the same problem with a '99 Malibu

What was the problem with it and how did you fix it?
