Wassup everyone!? Question for all ya'll pros on this stuff. Let me begin with this. I own a 96' Accord EX Vtec with the f22 motor in it. At first, I was going to put a FMAX turbo kit on it, but then after speaking to people like all of you here they suggested it was a bad idea and probably better off to go with a new motor....and... it would be cheaper. So to make a long story short, I am now putting a H22a motor in it and wanted to know if the Type-S is really worth the money. I can get the motor out of Colorado for $2800 (Type-S), shipped to my door for another $400 and then a got a guy that does swaps all the time for $700?? Basically I want to know if that's a good deal and would you guys suggest changing the cam gears and the pulley kit even in the Type-S motor? What other suggestions would you make to make that engine mean for reasonable costs? Also, I heard that the 94-95 Type-S motors are better because they are closed, is that true? Sorry for all the questions... project starts 03/14/03 :frog: running out of time! Please let me know what you think......

definently worth doing the Type S for that price, that is crazy cheap. Just the stock motor should be fine, if anything (in my sole opinion) I'd spend the extra dough on a new clutch, intake, and header. You can get a good header for cheap, my friend got one for around $125 on ebay all chromed up and nice. The Type S already has some nice pistons and cam gears in it (i'm sure you can make them better though) I heard something about those years also, not sure if it's true or not but i'm sure someone can help you out better with that. But if you can get it all around $3900 then that is one hell of a deal including shipping and installation.

Is Turbo a good option if you want to the engine to last?? Some people say as long as you change the head gasket to a low compression and get something like the MSD Boost Retard that your engine would run fine at about 9-12psi??? But then I hear other people tell me that turbo will eventually blow up your engine some day no matter what you do?? I don't want to spend all that money on the Type-S engine and then have the turbo blow it to metal shears in my oil pan!! What do you guys think??...... thanks... and does anyone know if there is a big difference in the FMAX kits or should I just make one myself and save about $2k??

Any FI will lower your engines life. You are putting added strain on the parts. You can make it last as long as a normal motor it just means more frequent maintanence and tune ups thats all :smoka:
