Talking Mercedes 300SL24 - Finished Pics

Yo,

me again. This time another Mercedes :finger: , actually this was my very first Merc I build - more then 10 years ago now. It's the Revell-Germany kit, I don't think it's still in production, I got the kit while visiting the Revell factory in Germany, together with the chaps from the local hobby club. They gave us all this kit, as a present!!
Anyways, the kit itself seems to offer plenty of detail, engine included, but as with most of the Revell kits from those days, fitting was a fiddle. I had to use super-glue to keep the body to the chassis fitted to way I wanted. Painted was done with Glasurit Automotive paint, and it proves. The body is still in the same glossy state as it was 10 years ago! Interior is detailed with added seat-belts and some stuff - don't know the English word for that - to make the carpets etc. In 1990 it was "Best in Class" during the IPMS UK Nationals.

Cheers,

Guido

Looks good, nice shine on the paintwork

The seatbelts are great, they make a nice finishing touch.

huudo,

I don't know if you noticed, but the whole chassis on Revell's model is wrong. When compared to the real thing and the Tamiya 500sl kit, you can tell that Revell just used a modified version of their 560SEC kit. I have the 300sl-24 convertible model and was really surprised when i saw the front and rear suspensions, which are completely wrong for the car!!

Looks really great (especially considering it's a Revell kit)

Btw, with what hobby club did you visit the revell factory, is it a local one or is it 'nationwide'? I'm thinking of joining a model club in my region (O-Vl) cuz I would really like to see some experts at work.

I FEEL SO SAD!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS KIT WAS MY FIRST CAR KIT!!!!! AND I PUT IT TO SHAME!!!

Oh man, seeing this brings back so many memories... I picked it up more than 10 years ago in one of those toy outlet stores in Michigan... my first ever car kit! It's long gone now, but I still remember what I did to it:

- Hand-painted testors gloss black with bubbles everywhere
- Cut decal and used arts and crafts GLUE to stick to seats ALONG WITH DECAL BACKING
- Cracked windshield and fogged up lens (too much Testors tube glue i suppose)
- No idea what "trimming parts meant" so all the parts still had their sprue bit attached, hahaha
- broken wheel axle

Such a shame, it was a nice kit too with opening hood and great engine detail... sigh... oh well, every modeler has his/her trials and tribulations i guess....

So, congrats on a fine lookng R-G 300SL!

I didn't knew that ... - but it clearly showed during the making, that it didn't fit that well together. I also have Tamiya's SL and that kit seems a lot more accurate as well.

Thanks for clarifying!

We went with the local hobby club.

For local clubs, go to the IPMS Belgium . Inside there is a link "locale secties". There is one in Antwerp.

Alternatively there is a non IPMS Section in Eeklo: You can find their site here Modlebouw Eeklo

fyi - IPMS is mostly specialised in aircraft, so if that's not your cup of tea, you might want to check the boys in Eeklo - their having a contest next weekend!
