Help Please 2003 Sable won't move

I was driving down the road today and stoped at a light. The light changed and my car wouldn't move, foward or backward. It's a automatic and the handle moves just fine but the car does nothing. A friend checked the fuses. It didn't make any noise so it can't be bad broke can it? One minute ok, the next won't go in gear.
Any thought?
Thanks
