I'm eighteen years old and beginning to feel some a trickle of fuel going through my veins. My father said he will help me buy a Honda CRX-SI I'm really thinking of a '87 - '90 model. Souping it up and such. But.. I'm rather car illeterate.. I'd appreciate some of you with knowledge to lend a hand. I have many questions, and very few answers.

Where are you located? Cause an 87 model is different from a 88-91 model here. Just to tell ya Ask whenever you have a question im sure someone will be able to help ya out.

Asides the body structure, is there anything else that is different? Stock HP, engine, torque, different sized engine comparement? Or anything else that you can think of?

anyway I dont think there is anything different other than the bodywork... maybe the interior but i take it an SI has the same engine weather its a 87 to 88-90 hehe but i aint really up on the CRX thing hehe

Trust me. If you plan on working on your car, get an 88-91 CRX. The 1st gen CRX (pre 88) has the infamous Honda VACUUM BOX which consists of about 354,678 vacuum lines and is a major pain in the ass. Also, some (if not all) are carburated engines. the 88-91 Si has a d16a6 1.6L SOHC multi port fuel injected engine with 108 hp and is a sporty little car right out of the box. I think you'd be a lot happier with a 2nd gen. just my $.02.

Of course, getting the first-generation JDM Si CRX front-cut is a nice option. 130bhp of ZC goodness and with a front cut, you get the loom, ECU, drivetrain, brakes etc

I went for a ride in an imported JDM Si third-generation Civic - damn it was nice, the ZC pulled the thing along almost as well as the B16 in a 4G.

stop by the 4th gen civic site. of course the sections like body kits & hoods won't do you much good. but like the engine section info is the same for crx as civic. the JDM/EDM/USDM section will help you understand the differences between the 3 versions made by honda...and will also help you understand what Setanta is talking about

Can someone find me a visual of the engine compartment of a 87 CRX and a 88? So I can see the difference, and if you have MSpaint skills, circle the vacuum box?

Also what is the term 'bhp' mean?

Lastly what order do people suggest upgrading your car? [Engine wise]

like the others here, I suggest you go with an 88-91, you will have 100X more aftermarket parts available to you than with the 87.....it also looks better...just my 2 cents
