I want to hear your opinion on the 5.0.
I personally don't like it, having a block that can't take over 500 horse, isn't for me. As someone once said "If it doesn't scare you, it's not powerful enough". Sure 500 horse is alot, but I want more, who doesn't? So tell me what are the pros and cons of a 5.0. |

Re: What's so great about a 5.0?
My factory 5.0 block can handle over 1000hp, its not my fault that everyone else use the crap ones.
Less weight, aftermarket is pretty darn good, will fit in a lot more engine bays, nothing like a 5.0 strocked to 331 reving to 9000rpms all day long ![]() 5.0 will be more than 100lbs off the front end, over a 351C, so throw a few turns, and the 5.0 will say bye bye. Straightline, the 351C is pretty darn good.

Re: What's so great about a 5.0?
If you make over 500rw n/a on a clev your lookin for trouble. I have read tons of articles, talked to a couple people, and seen more than 1 picture of a 351c needing a sleeve because a rod beat hell out of the factory bore. The 351c is pretty much limited to power output as well as the 5.0. My 351w should handle 750hp no problem, but I'll keep it around 600ish rw until I get a Dart block.

Re: What's so great about a 5.0?
Lucky me, our 72 Mach 1 has forged internals. Me and my dad don't plan to even bring it over 500 horse, more close to 400. He wants to keep it near stock.

Re: What's so great about a 5.0?
the 5.0 i had was great, i loved the 302, it's reliable, great aftermarket, and the damn thing runs forever. i've seen 1200hp 302's.... with my own eyes. there's no stopping those things if you have the money to spend.

Re: What's so great about a 5.0?
Only a Boss 302 block might handle 1200hp, like the one I was refering too. I know 1000hp is well within its limits.
