Blower Motor

hey guys, where is the blower motor located in a 2001 lumina sedan, 3100sfi? Mine started makeing noise about a month ago and is pregressivly getting worse.

Also what is the standard cost of one of these? Should I also replace the cabin air filter(if it has one)?

I really know nothing about this kind of stuff.....

Thanks.

Re: Blower Motor

I'm not sure about your 2001, but on my '93 it is under the glove box. A real tight space! My advice: When you pull the old motor assy. out be careful to not break any tines on the fan. I wound up replacing the motor when I should've checked the fuse/plug first. My $5 repair wound up being a $50 hassle.

Re: Blower Motor

LOL, that sucks. Mine works though, blows just fine, just makes noise that is barely hearable on 1, goes away when off, gets louder on 2, and just screams on 4.

Re: Blower Motor

that's what mine did before it went out! Coincedentally it was this same time of year. BRRRRRR! I've got my Haynes manual here for '95-'01 luminas. Your motor IS below the glove box as I thought. Any other questions? just ask

Re: Blower Motor

no prob. It's been awhile since I replaced mine, but I do remember that it made a horrible growl. Eventually it just stopped working. I was pissed that it broke when we pulled it out, because it turned out to just be a fuse...or plug...I can't remember.
The manual mentions that you should disable the airbag system before working in the vicinity of airbag sensors. My '93 doesn't have airbags, so I didn't have that problem.

Re: Blower Motor

I guess that warning is kind of like the "disable neg. battery cable" that most manuals want you to do before doing ANYTHING on your vehicle. It is probably a little more important though! you don't want to get WHACKED by an airbag! I always found the Neg. battery warning funny because they want you to disconnect it before doing the simpliest tasks. (J/K) "before you change a lightbulb....be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable..." Riiiiiiiiiiiight! ha ha

Re: Blower Motor

Sounds like a dry bearing. You might be able to save it. You'll still have to remove and disassemble it, though.

Re: Blower Motor

yeah, the sound is more like a high frequency clicking that turns into a growl at higher speeds. If im going to go through the trouble of removing it, id rather replace it and not had to deal with it again.
