Is it possible to turn a 2x4 into a 4x4?

I have a perfectly fine 1991 dakota with a broken (rusted out) frame. Now, Im also thinking of getting a '92 LE dakota thats a 2x4. Both are 3.9L. Everything is basically the same. Can it be done? I mean with a little cutting for transfer case and all that.. Will it or can I make this new truck a 4x4? Every part is compatable. The only difference I can see is tat the '92 has 2 oil filters in the engine bay instead of underneath.
