Cool What car should I get a 96 civic or a 02 cavalier?

I am 17 and looking for a good reliable car and a car that I can fix up with aftermarket lights and air intake and things like that. I’m looking at a 1996 Honda civic 4dr LX green with 179,000km for $5500 Canadian or a 2002 Chevy cavalier blue 4dr with 88,00km for $5900 Canadian. Which car do you think would be the best car for me and which car would have the most power even thought both cars don’t have a lot of power to start with. I would probably put $2000 in a car for aftermarket parts, so what car would be the best to buy aftermarket stuff for.

If your going to just put altezza's and chrome projectors and big huge wheels and such on it, just please get a cavalier and save a honda from all that embarassment.

Even though the honda has way more miles, if it was taken care of right it still has many more to go, even when things start to go parts can be found cheap and its easy to work on if you know what your doing.

Im not a big fan of the cavalier, I think they are built poorly and they just feel and look cheap to me, one may say the same about honda but chevy cuts corners.

and if you want to go fast..plain and simple the honda is the way to go, even though the 4 door platform isnt the greatest for speed it can still be done.

Re: What car should I get a 96 civic or a 02 cavalier?

There's a reason why a Cavalier sells so cheap.
And there's a reason why Honda's have the highest resale value.
Do you really want to fix up a car that no one wants?
Versus one that is very popular.
These two cars are at opposit ends of the quality scale, no contest.
Even Chevrolet would rather get your Honda at trade in time instead
of one of their own cars.
The Chevy will drop in value drastically in the next couple of years,
the Honda will stay about the same, in fact, right now they seem
to be going up.

Also, go to your insurance agent & find out which one is less to have insured.

Even with the huge difference in mileage (km), the honda will probably give you less problems than the Cavalier, no joke. But please, if you do want to put aftermarket lights and "things like that" on your car, do so in a tasteful manner.

Cosmetic or engine mods? There's huge amounts of aftermarket parts for both cars, both with engine mods, and cosmetic mods, so you'll be set either way.
Just a side note: Adding 'Intake and exhaust' will only give you about 3 horsepower, if that. So keep that in mind.

IMO, I'd rather see you spend $1000 in mantinence than doing aftermarket stuff.
