just bought a crx nd dont know wat 2 do first???
hey i jsut bought a 90' crx si and i never really been into imports so b easy on me, i just bought it yesterday, im shure u guys know more than me so yea ... i watn it fast for shure but ive been reading all bout engine swaps and idk if i sould keep teh engin i have (and no i dont even know wat kind it is i konw its a 4 banger and it says honda on it, lol) or i should do a swap to one of these otehr engines. ill probly keep teh one i got but wat r sum well worth mods bsides a turbo or nething over a grand each...

it all depends on what your goal is for the car. do you want it fast? or do you just want it to be a gas saver? take a pic of your engine bay so we can see what you have already. or if you know where to look for the engine code tell us what it is.

well i got home from work and i took all the numbers i could off the engine... i didnt look too hard but i found sum by the cooling fan taht r...d16a6 and under that it said 3000477... and on teh tranny next to those it says
L3-2059473... well i watn it to b fasst as hell. i kinda wanta do autocross style of car or just fast and good handleing... i hope these r the right numbers... if it helps it says on the valve cover taht its a 16 valve... it looks like it dosnt have enuf room to fit dohc but i wouldnt b suprised......... is it vtec wat is vtec??? o and the engine is all stock cept ive got a chip to up the rev limiter but i dont need it.............. yet... o adn i see u guys sayin everywhere wat dose jdm stand for or is it a brand??? u kan tell im new here!!! lol o well i gatta stars sumwhre Last edited by mulisharider11x; 06-29-2006 at 12:56 AM. |

yeah man, the higher up in the size of the engine you go, the more gas it'll consume - obviously your d16 would be better on gas than lets say a b20, which is a 2.0 litre...
if you decide to keep your engine, if you want more speed, make it get more air with a filer or cold air intake - better spark - a whole exhaust system from the catalytic converter to the pipes to the muffler will add some horses to it - and obviously if you get better internals in your motor. Turbo systems... they consume alot of gas but do make your car alot faster, it depends on how much you want to spend - some systems for around 3-4 grand may give your car 100+ hp, also Weight is always a big factor, the lighter your car is the better it will be on gas and the faster it will go. A/C - mine never worked so i took it out and gained maybe 2-3 hp since the compressor runs on a belt off of your crank, from your engine, taking it out also gives you more room in the engine bay to play with, a cleaner look and a little less weight. It's up to you man, and it's always easier and more cost efficient if you have a hookup or friend who knows what they're doing - labour wise, paying for labour fucking sucks.

like he said above you could use youe motor that is in your car. not a bad motor but not even close to the best. what most people on here like or want to do is swap there motor since it is so easy with these hondas/acuras. they make mounts to fit almost any honda/acura motor into pretty much any handa/acura chassis. well me personaly i would like a b series motor(any motor with the engine stamp that starts with b like b16, b18, b20 ect.) but those swaps require mounts shiftlinkage and or other materials to install. and are more expensive. the others are the d series like you have any engine code that starts with d like d16z6, d16a6, d16y8. they can just be swaped in with minor modifications to no mods. and if anyone hasent answered your question yet you do not have vtec. do some research and you will see wich motors have vtec and dont. and you will need to wire vtec when putting a vtec motor in. unless you pay for someone to do it. just no that it is required. anything else? oh and go to the page before this(the one that lists all the threads) go to the top and read the second sticky. (it says IMPORTANT on it. read threw there and you will learn many thing about this honda/acura swaping. good luck wth whatever.

Sounds like a cool ride, I have a hatch that I just started building up.
So you want to make it handle? Thats always good. Since you have a 1K budget, you might start with suspension mods. A friend of mine had a CRX and I thought it was pretty tight, handled good as-is (as-was). There's always room for inprovements. Firmer struts, lowering springs, bigger wheels, lower tires and then install a big brake kit (nothing worse than killer wheels w/puney brakes showing). Get the chassis dialed in and then bite the big bullet and mod the motor (or swap it). You can only do so much to a 1.6 (1.5?) and installing a twin cam motor will give you more gains. It's a tough call. It all depends on how much you want to spend. Keep us posted on the progress. |
