I have a 1990 Olds Cutless Ciera SL International, 120,000 miles with a 3300 engine. I would like to have the timing chain replaced but no one wants to give me an estimate. This car runs fine but I can feel some hesitation in the timing chain. Could someone give me a ballpark estimate to replace the timing chain & possibly the guides?

Re: Timing Chain Replacement
What do you mean hesitation? If you mean some play when turning the crank by hand before you feel the cam pick up, a slight amount is normal, this is not normally a time interval replacement part. Book labor is about 4.5 -5.5 hours.

Re: Timing Chain Replacement
If some one could respond with dollar amounts that would be a great help.

Re: Timing Chain Replacement
My older brother needs his timing chain fixed on his '97 Dodge Stratus (4cyl) and, with labor, it will cost $900. We live in Minnesota, USA. It definitely varies so much, as my nearby auto repair shop (a Goodyear Gemini car care place) charged me $999 for the massive amount of time it took to re-seal the exhaust manifold. Someone stayed later that night and worked on it before they opened up shop to get it done for me too. Only $99 more for what was definitely longer than 5 hours.
