Question Can i use a turbo and a super

I know this question has probably been asked a million and one times, but can i use both a super and turbo charger at the same time, or is that a bad idea? thanks alot for any help you can give.

Not much of purpose in it.

Yes - that way you can circumvent turbo lag. The supercharger handles the forced induction for low speeds (and also quickens up the spooling, which means exhaust is excavated faster), while the turbo spins up.

You have a point, but the costs would be very high and not many would cough up the change just to avoid a little lag.

would a sequential twin turbo be more cost effective? also isn't there a system out there, i forget the name, that starts to spin up the blades electronically then lets the exhaust take over eliminating lag anyways?

1 - yes, higher flow, but there is still the slight lag.

2 - I believe Garrett is coming out with one this summer.

Well Volvo made a TwinCharged luxuray Coupe in the late 90's, but Iv only ever seen one, and Ill be damned if I can remember what it was called.

And HKS makes a Twincharger kit for the Toyota MK1 MR2 and Levin/Trueno.
Its a Turbo that takes over from the factory Supercharger at high RPM.

There are also quite a few ppl around the world who built thier own systems. They either use a butterfly valve to allow boost from either the S/C or the turbo, or they run the S/C into the Turbo.
The only problem them seem to encounter doing this is supplying enough air from the S/C to keep the Turbo happy, and most use a two intakes into the Turbo.

On a side note - I wonder what would happen if one happened to bolt an HKS GT3037 onto a Diablo.

The only practical reason for running both a blower and a turbo at the same time is to eliminate turbo lag. At high revs when the turbo is spooling, the blower will only draw on the engine reducing output. Theoretically is it possible to run both applications and if done realistically, the only way I can see it as would be for the blower to spool the turbo. A much more cost and power effective way to reduce turbo lag is to either run smaller sequential turbos or the other would be use some kits on the market that actually use nitrous to spool the turbo off the line. It's cost effective and is not as potentially destructive as injecting the nitrous. Don't get me wrong, you can mess things up with nitrous but if used intelligently, it will definitely produce significant gains.

Both my VR4s have sequential turbos on it. ie - The small one drives the large one so turbo lag is extremely short. I'd find it quite an engineering feat to put a supercharger on a turbo charger.

I don't think anybody's ever done that before.
