97 1500 high idle

I've got a 1997 1500, 2wd, 5.0 Vortec, Auto...Everything works good but lately when I start it in the morning(cold) it idles about a 1000 RPM, and as it start to warm up, approx 1 minute later, the RPM starts going up slowly, it finally levels off about 1400 RPM and stays there. When put into gear the RPM drops to 800 where it normally runs but dropping it into gear from 1400 is a fun one. After approx a minute from start up (cold) the engine light comes on and starts flashing, no codes that I can see, I stopped counting at about 90 some odd flashes. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor all replaced, ohms check on fuel injectors is good....any ideas other than dropping it off at the local "gouge and screw"???

Re: 97 1500 high idle

The first thing I would do is check for a vacuum leak.

I have heard that you can spray carburetor cleaner on and around your vacuum lines, when you hit the spot that's sucking air, it will momentarily drop the rpms of the motor. I have never done it.

Get the codes read and start from there. Go to Advance or Autozone for that.
