Tracker Tranie Leak

I have a 2002 Tracker, 4-door, 4 WD. When I drive it on the highway 100 km/h (65 mph) it leaks transmission fluid all over the bottom of the vehicle. It continues to drip for days afterwards. When I drive around town, no leak is experienced. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? Any solutions??

BernieC, You need to warmup the trans fluid to normal operating temp, place the vehicle in Park on a level surface and check the fluid level. Once you know this important piece of info, we can discuss possible problems. Is full, low, ok?
Is it bright red?

I checked the transmission fluid level according to the owners manual instructions. It looks to me that the transmission is overfilled. It is way above the hot level when I checked it and I had warmed it up by driving it for a while.

A little more history; I had then engine replaced in January, after purchasing this vehicle used. It appears the former owner never changed the oil.

When the new engine went in would they have had to top up the transmission fluid??

Sorry for the delay. Have been away and have not had time to check back in. Any further advice greatly appreciated. What do I do to lower the level, Should I do or take it to my mechanic??

Yep, sounds like a simple problem : Transmission is overfilled. Drain it to a proper hot level and it shouldn't leak at all. Now may be a great time to flush and fill with new fluid.

BernieC.,the preceeding post is correct. Overfilling causes foaming and overflow problems w/ fluid. The recommended change interval for Tracker trans fluid is 35K. Unfortunately, changing trans fluid is not straight forward w/ the Tracker. You cannot just drop the pan because there is a trans support beam in the way.
The color of the fluid will tell you how urgent the need to change it is. If it is somewhat red change soon, if it is brownish change ASAP. Drain and fill will be sufficient when you do change it.

Thanks for the help. The fluid does appear brownish red and at 145,000 km should probably be changed. I will take to my local mechanic and have it changed.
