17 first speeding ticket---what do you think?

I am 17 and last night was on my way home from dropping my friend Alana at her house, the road i was on had a speed limit of 45 for a majority of the time, the road then changes from 45-35-25mph in a very quick period of time, i can admit that i honestly did not see the sign changes,(just wasnt paying attention), well as you have guessed a cop pulls me over, get my info out yadda yadda, already have my window down and info out when he gets to the window, suprizingly the cop was very polite but had to ticket me anyways, he clocked me at 42 in a 25, what doesnt help is that there was some snow on the ground but for the most part not too much traffic, after fiddling in his car for a bit, the cop comes back with the ticket and says that he has to give it to me in order to teach a lesson to other drivers about safe driving in crappy conditons. On the plus side the officer did mention that he wrote in his report that (the judge will see...or so he says) "I was very respectful and polite, as well as apologetic", and that "So far ive been doing well as a driver" My court date is on the 9th of Jan, 06'. I know that i will end up paying something but im am hoping to god that the cop WILL give that little quote spiel to the judge and that may lower (if not eliminate) any kinda licences rovoking or driving school, i have read that you can fight tickets but i know that i made a stupid mistake so instead of pleading not guilty im just going to plead stupidity and that i was not paying as much attention as i should have been-------what are some of your opinions on this, such as the fine, punishment, etc.......

----thanks....PS: as the subject says it is my first violation of any kind

www.speedingticketcentral.com

That site helped me out, I'm 17 and got caught racing and reckless driving. Only speeding will go on my record, fined $90+ court fees(and lawyer, but you won't need one), and I gave up my license until February since I don't really need it to get to work for now.

I wasn't aware he was going to say it, but my police officer said that I was extremely apollogetic and polite etc etc and I guess that helped.

Chances are you'll get a good behavior thing for 6 months and if you don't do anything in that time it will be thrown out.

Dress nicely, bring both parents, look respectful.

See if driving school is an option in your area. Chances are that if you go to court, you'll probably get it lowered to like 10 over, so it will be a little better on your insurance.

Well the judge could really break your balls due to the fact that there was snow on the ground. Just go in, dress nice, be polite, and apologetic. Just tell the judge that you honestly weren't paying attention the the signs and that you will drive alot safer/carefully. Let us know what happens. Oh and natecivic92 WTF kinda response is that...Thats the dumbest thing I ever heard.

Unhappy

thanks for the replies, the snow is the one thing im most worried about, and another thing that is both sorta good but an unfortunate coincidence is that court date is in early Jan.9 my 18th birthday is on the 8th of March.......do the math and thats just about 3 months, a perfect amount of time for the judge to say yeah, your licence is gone untill your blowing your candles.....man this is going to suck.

----but then again i dont know if he would take it for that long, last summer my friend who was 17 at the time got pulled over for doing 94 in a 60, (even though he got up to 110 before the cop clocked him) and he got his taken away for 3 months, wouldnt you find it a little unfair to get my driving privilages taken for that long although i was doing 17 over on accident whereas he was conciously doing 34 over?

Re: 17 first speeding ticket---what do you think?

Here is what you do (i learned this from my 2 tickets and I am only 17) you take the ticket, pay the fee or class cost. If you challenge it I 100% guarantee that you will lose. You were speeding and acting nice wont get you out of a ticket. The truth is you were speeding and you saying you didn't see the sign won't hold up in court. If you have a drivers liscence it is your responsibility to watch the road. You'll probobly have it off your record for 6-12 months. If you challenge it and lose you have to pay court fees, lawyer fees (if you choose), and you will still have to pay ticket. i live in Minnesota and challenging the ticket somehow brings the price up. Your insurance will skyrocket. Do yourseelf a favor. Plead guilty, pay the fee, and leave.

17-yr-olds shouldn't be allowed to drive except with their parents. Damn punks just got out of diapers and already think they deserve to drive.

Thumbs up

ok first of all your name is Tonto....not gunna get too many ladies with that one...second of all idiot, im not like all of the other little 17 year old teenie boppers who think its hilerious to have hit 3 mail boxes after having their licence for just a little over 5 months. It's pretty shallow of you to try and judge people like you are doing. Third of all you yourself are probably like what 12-13? with nothing else to do but surf the net being a loser and bad mouthing other people....you sir need to get a life.

-----by the way i didnt get my licence suspended...ticket w/ court costs came to about $87....the judge was pretty friendly and understood that it was a mistake....he made the ticket itself only $15...and for the most part every kid who gets a moving violation before 18 DOES have to go to one of those 6 hr classes....therefore ive got my self a fantastic Sat. to sit there and listen to their whole speil and explain things that ive already known and dont need to learn again.

and by the way Chevy4life1985 thats damned noble of you to serve our country in the armed forces..i myself am joining the USAF in around Oct.

Re: 17 first speeding ticket---what do you think?

LOL so just because you were polite to the police officer means you don't deserve a ticket? I would give you a $1000 ticket. Damn 17 year old kids are the worst drivers ever. The legal age should be 18.

Sorry dude but you have to be intelligent to join the AF. They don't let incompetent people pilot F-15s.
