2001 GA SE ingition wont turn

I have a 2001 Grand Am SE 4cyl Auto. yesterday the car started and drove no problem, but later that night went to start it and the key will not turn in the ignition and the steering wheel turns freely(not locked like should be) anyone have any suggestions besides hitting the key into the ignition and using wd40(tried both)??

Re: 2001 GA SE ingition wont turn

It sounds like the lock mechanism has failed, if the wheel is turning freely and the key will not rotate then there is a problem that is most likely going to involve either having the lock cylinder or the steering wheel removed to get to the pin that locks the wheel and ignition. Sorry I can't be of any more help. Maybe someone else will have some suggestions for you. Good Luck
