Bronco II oil problem
Hi my son bought a 1987 bronco II, he has had it a while now.
The oil light comes on and engine is tapping, probably the oil pump. My question is, he over filled it with oil. When I mean over filled it had about a gallon extra in it. I thought maybe why the engine noise and light on. I drained the oil now it is at the correct level. Still the light is on and tapping.. Oil pump? or is there some more damage I may not know about. Im not sure what, that much more oil can do. Im sure it cant be good for the engine. Thanks Mike |

Welcome to the forum!
Usually when that much oil is in the engine it will get into the cylinders and since a liquid won't compress, it will bend the rods. Luckily, that's not the case. I suspect the oil light was on before the overfill. The ticking sound is the lifters not pumping up due to no oil pressure. Don't run it with the oil light on. More than likely, the oil pump needs to be replaced, unless the bearings are so damaged that it won't hold any pressure. If that's the case you'll need a rebuild. |
