'98 Accord won't start

This car has been sitting for a while and now that it's cold it won't start. We need to move it out of the street so we need to start it.

Dead battery, probably a bad alternator, it cranks very slowly and dies. Tried to charge it for a whole hour and it cranked maybe 3 times and that was it.

Would a jump-starter kit thing work better than another car's battery?
Should I try getting a new battery??

Any help appreciated!

Re: '98 Accord won't start

slow cranking = check battery voltage and the rest of the charging system. if battery voltage is low, get some jumper cables.

if voltage and charging system is fine, check spark and fuel.

Re: '98 Accord won't start

Try jumping it (from another car) first. Easy to do, and you'll get immediate results (or not).

But then (a) if it's been standing for a while the battery could be shot by now, so it won't hold a charge and (b) if you DO want to try and charge the batt, then you need to run it with the revs up at 1500-2000 for SEVERAL minutes. A 10-mile drive would be better, but - reading between the lines - I suspect the car doesn't have a valid tag.

Oops I guess I didn't explain clearly :-/... I've already tried jumping from another car, and tried charging the battery from another car for about an hour and it would only crank slow and then the battery was discharged again. Dead battery that can't hold charge I guess?

Haha, AccordCodger, you're right it doesn't have valid tags... but there are some others on it ;-)
