Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like your engine has gone to hell in a handbasket.

If you had an internal LIM failure, I'm guessing the clunking is from your bearings being bad (eaten by the coolant). If that's the case, continuing to run your engine could result in bearing failure / seizing, and then your engine would be completely toast.

Is there anything I can do to the engine or do I have to replace it? Someone said it sounded like it blew a rod? I dont know what that means exactly.

i blew a rod in my cavalier

i used to own a cavalier, and i blew a rod, the third one to be exact, and i know EXACTALLY how to fix it.. one of the few things i do know,

the engine is gone gone if you DID blow a rod, butttt if you can find a highschool around you take it to their autoshop and donate the car to them, they will rebuild it, it will take a whole school year, but they will get it working u just pay for parts, it works really good if you don't know what your doing, and then when their finished they will give the car back, but if the rod is shot, then you should hear a loud ( even louder when you give it gas) almost like a lawnmower with no exhaust, if so try the highschool,
