Question broken release cable

So my son in law decides to open his hood on his 88 the other day and pulled the entire cable out of it's covering,great huh? My question is now how do we open the hood so we can put on a new cable

Re: broken release cable

You will have to use a screwdriver to "push" on the release spring. There is a piece of thick "wire" that is inside the hood latch mechanism. You can see it looking between the hood and grill. you will have to push this "wire" with a screwdriver.

Edit: Here is a picture of what I explained above. Press the screwdriver against the release and push.

haha this happened to me while I was in the middle of fixing my radiator...I was a few bolts away from finishing, dropped the hood went and got a soda came back to finish and yup, pulled the cord and nothin...so I look around for the answer to this...no one in ther world knew, or online....so i start pokin in there and get it up, and it makes me feel stupid as all hell...that it was that simple...
