Any way to get more power?? ('96 Disco)
Hey guys. I just traded my 2003 Sequoia Limited 4X4 (jacked up, headers, etc) for a '96 Disco and a new Audi S4 (gotta have the SUV for work). Anyways, this is a great offroader, but the brakes, although new as of Friday from the LR dealership, fade dangerously coming off of the mountain. Also, it barely gets out of its own shadow when there's 3 people with me. Is there something to do to get more power? I took it to the dealership and spent $1935 on having all the oil leaks fixed and the service done. They said everything looked fine. It's a great truck, like I said, but VERY VEY weak. With the following these trucks have, I figure there's something you guys know that I don't
Thanks in advance for your help. Jared Cullop 1996 Land Rover Discovery 2000 Saab 9-3 turbo 2004 Audi S4 (344HP) |

Re: Any way to get more power?? ('96 Disco)
Jared,
A little side note, the dealer will always find leaks and charge $$$ to repair them on these trucks. My advice is start to go over it yourself. On these trucks the engines are a bit underpowered, its a Buick block design from way way ago. Look at installing a K&N filter or a snorkel if you plan on offroading this will give you a bit more pickup. If you really want to see a diference I would install a new set of gears probably a 4.10 ratio. We sell the Great Basin Line and are very pleased. Any person who can pickup a socket and wrench can install the gears we can even do a complete 3rd memeber [differential housing] swap so all you have to do is drop them in your truck. Take a look at www.get-rhino.com and let me know if I can help with anything. |

I also have a 96 disco, and I love it. The first week I got it, I put in a K&N, and it was like I took the leash off of her! Best of luck!

uhhh no, you own a rover dude, if you wanted all that sport I would have stuck with what you had.. rovers are made to go up hills, houses and mountains not the local race track.

Re: Any way to get more power?? ('96 Disco)
This is how life goes:
If you want speed get Porsche If you want speed cheaper get Corvette If you want speed even cheaper get a used 2005 Infiniti Q45 If you want Expensive luxury get Rolls Roys If you want Fast luxury get Mybach or Ferrari If you want medium priced Luxury get new Lexus If you want cheaper luxury get Infiniti Q45 2002+ If you want even cheaper luxury get a 1992-1999 Mercedes S-class If you want to show off your masculinity for girls get Hummer If you want a reliable SUV with medium offroading get Subaru Forester If you want a true offroad machine get a toyota Landcruiser If you want a true offroad machine but you can't pay $20,000 buy a Landrover..... So My point is: Landrover will ONLY give you what it's supposed to: Great hill-climbing ability. Don't expect it to run smooth and quiet and comfortable and give 30mpg. It's gonna be a rough freeway vehicle and if yourun it too fast and too hard it'll need repair and maintenance. I remember when I was a teen my father drove our Range Rover through a stream that was 5 feet deep 6 feet wide and had a V-shaped bottom. That thing climbed out like it had arms. |
